Tunxis Community College was voted among the best colleges in Hartford Magazine’s 17th annual “Best Of” readers’ poll.
Tunxis received second runner up, and was the only community college to make the list.
“It is wonderful to see Tunxis recognized, and is especially meaningful in these challenging times and during the college’s 50th anniversary,” said Dr. James Lombella, North-West regional president of the Connecticut Community Colleges. “For 50 years, Tunxis has provided quality, affordable education to students all over Connecticut, who have enrolled to enhance their life and pursue better employment opportunities.”
“More than 6,000 credit and non-credit students choose Tunxis each semester, for the variety of academic programs, supportive learning environment, smaller classes and many leadership opportunities on campus,” added Tunxis campus CEO Dr. Darryl Reome. “In addition to our graduates who have gone on to pursue in-demand careers, many others have transferred to four-year colleges to earn additional credentials at top tier colleges and universities.”
Reader interest in the annual poll was extraordinarily high, with thousands of readers who voted in nearly 200 categories, according to Hartford Magazine. The results, which were published online at courant.com on Oct. 14, can be viewed here. Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, there will not be a print version of Hartford Magazine’s “Best Of” list, but instead will be shared through the Hartford Courant’s digital and social platforms.
An accelerated winter session at Tunxis begins Dec. 27, and spring semester starts Jan. 22. Registration is currently open for prospective students to apply and register for classes. To reserve a spot for the college’s virtual open house on Nov. 10, visit tunxis.edu/openhouse. The college also offers socially-distanced, small group (student and guest) tours of campus, which can be requested by email: [email protected].
Tunxis Community College originally opened its doors in Farmington in October 1970 with 494 students. Through the decades, the college has continued to expand to accommodate its growing student population and community needs.
Today the college offers more than 70 associate degree and certificate programs that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need. Tunxis transfer programs offer guaranteed admission to the CT State Universities and University of Connecticut. Transfer agreements with private colleges and universities are also available.
