Tunxis Community College will hold free anonymous screenings for a mood check-up on October 5 during National Depression Screening Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the 100 Building main corridor.

The program provides free, anonymous screenings for depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Participants will have the opportunity to speak with a counselor. Referrals to community support services and educational information will be available.

The event is held annually in October to spread awareness of depression and related disorders, and to educate the public about symptoms and treatments. Of the 19 million Americans who experience depression each year, many develop their first symptoms just before or during college, according to the University of Michigan Depression Center.
