The community is invited to the following free events, performances and exhibits at Tunxis Community College in Farmington. During inclement weather, please check the Tunxis website for updates at tunxis.edu, since events will be cancelled or postponed if the College is closed.

• March 9-April 9
Gallery Exhibition: “Still Lifes: Echo/Shadow/Reflection,” by Janette Maxey, a Tunxis alumna and University of Hartford Art School graduate, in the Wallace Barnes and Barbara Hackman Franklin Art Gallery. Located at the entrance to the 600 Building, the Barnes-Franklin Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. For more information, email [email protected].

• April 1, 10-11:20 a.m.
Panel discussion: “Diverse Perspectives on Our Criminal Justice System,” a discussion about the criminal justice and incarceration system in Connecticut, will be held in Founders Hall. Free, with light refreshments. Female performers from Judy Dworin Performance Project will open the event with songs and monologues from the group’s show “In My Shoes,” which brings the voices of women in and outside of prison to the stage. The panel will include former inmates, professionals who have worked in the prison system, and criminal justice faculty from Tunxis. If the college is closed due to weather, the discussion will be rescheduled for April 8.

• April 2, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Public Safety Career Fair: Federal, state, and local agencies will be available to talk about internship and career opportunities in their respective departments. Held in the 600 Building Hallway. For more information, call 860.773.1646.

• April 8, 7 p.m.
Concert: Jazz performance in Tunxis Cyber Café, one of several planned as part of the Vitrano Family Jazz Series.The Green Jazz Band will perform, a quartet led by vocalist Sally Terrell and featuring special guest Kevin O’Neil on jazz guitar. The group will perform their fresh interpretations of standards and favorites from the Great American Songbook.

• April 17 & 18
Theater production: Tunxis Stage will present “A Real Step Up” and “Retribution,” the premiere of two new works by playwright Geoffrey Craig, who also directs, on Fri., April 17 at 7:30 p.m. & Sat., April 18, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall theater. The Saturday matinee will be followed by a session with the playwright and cast. “A Real Step Up” centers on issues of racism and violence. “Retribution,” a fictional play which bears resemblance to historical facts, takes place in 1945 and is about justice and revenge in the aftermath of the Nazi genocide. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased after April 1 in the President’s Office or online for a small service fee at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1358301.

April 21, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Career Fair: An Annual Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the 100 Building corridor. The public is invited to attend free of charge. Organizations seeking to hire, as well as job placement agencies, will be represented by exhibitors. Employers at the fair will represent a range of industries including financial services, telecommunications, law enforcement, insurance, residential services, manufacturing, social services, hospitality, food, security and retail.
