Achieving the Dream (ATD)

Tunxis became a member of Achieving the Dream in 2019. Achieving the Dream is a national network and initiative to help more community college students succeed and realize greater economic opportunities. ATD is a leader in championing evidence-based institutional improvements, such as long-term, sustainable commitments to improving student success, achievement in closing gaps, and changing student lives.

Achieving the Dream now leads the most comprehensive non-governmental reform movement for student success in higher education history, with more than 220 colleges in 43 states. Together we are helping community college students have a better chance of realizing greater economic opportunity and achieving their dreams.

As an ATD institution, Tunxis is focused on closing achievement gaps and accelerating success among diverse student populations, low-income students and students of color through an initiative called SOAR—Student Outcomes and Retention. Led by faculty and administrators, the goals of the initiative are to advance individual and system-wide strategies, ultimately providing measurable and sustainable outcomes for students through equitable education and evidence-based decision-making. The Achieving the Dream Network uses quantitative and qualitative data to stimulate reflection and discussion, to inform decisions in the quest for a more equitable educational environment and better student outcomes.

ATD Principles

  1. Committed Leadership
  2. Broad Engagement
  3. Equity
  4. Data driven decision-making
