Tunxis Community College’s Civic Engagement Institute presented a $300 check to New Britain Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Erin Stewart on April 26, during a talk she gave to students at the college on how young people can become active in their communities.

Tunxis professor and Civic Engagement Institute director Rafaele Fierro, Ph.D., presented the check to Mayor Erin Stewart.

The donation will go to Holmes Elementary School in New Britain, which serves approximately 460 students in grades K-5.

The Tunxis Civic Engagement Institute (CEI) is a campus organization committed to sharing knowledge and information for Tunxis students to become good citizens and neighbors. Besides civic engagement activities that occur in the classroom, the CEI provides forums, guest speakers and other intellectual exchanges designed to generate ideas and help improve the lives of others.
